I keep seeing a flood of posts on Facebook about how 2016 was the worst year ever and while most of the meme's are quite amusing, I gratefully can't relate to any of them. This year was full of the most amazing and life changing memories and experiences.
I remember starting off the new year going snowboarding. It was my first time and it was a blast despite the GIANT bruise I got on my rear end from falling at least a hundred times. I remember getting so frustrated that I didn't get it right away, One of my worst features is how hard I can be on myself. I am glad Bryan was the one to take and teach me for the first time because he always knows the right things to say to make me feel better.
Bryan proposed to me on February 11th while on a hike in the Jemez mountains, it was so sweet and special to us since we both love the outdoors and it was our one year anniversary. We waited a few weeks to tell the world about our engagement (we obviously told our family right away) since I needed to get my ring re-sized. This was totally my fault since I had previously told Bryan I was a size 5 since my purity ring was a size 5. Turns out that was way too big for my finger so we went back to have it sized to a 4.75, turns out still too big. We go back for 4.5 and guess what STILL TOO BIG! You could imagine my frustration at this point.
I know what your thinking.. "Didn't they size you in the store?!" Why yes, yes they did. The metal rings they had me try on to size all felt accurate and then when I actually put my ring on it felt too loose.
So with what felt like an eternity I got my ring sized to a 4.25 and haven't had any troubles since. It's pretty funny because my wedding ring fits my 7 year old sister-in-laws ring finger perfectly.. #smallfingerprobs
On May 7th I was baptized by Bryan into The Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints. It was a very eventful weekend, my in-laws came down from Idaho to attend the baptism and to meet my family before the wedding. I am so grateful that they came and that Bryan could baptize me. I love this church and this gospel and it has continued to bring so many blessings into my life. Click here to learn more.
On June 13th I officially became Mrs. Bryan Hicks at the Maroon Bells in Aspen, Colorado. The most beautiful place I have ever seen and despite the downpour of rain 5 minutes before exchanging our vows it was the most magical day ever. Lucky for us prayer is powerful and the weather cleared up with the perfect amount of time to have the ceremony and get some portraits done. The next day we jetted off to Cabo San Lucas to spend a nice relaxing week on the beach for our honeymoon. <3
We decided to take a nice little weekend trip to Salt Lake City in July since I had never been and we thought it would be cool to be there on Pioneer Day. I immediately fell in love with Utah and haven't stopped thinking about it since. I cant wait to go back! While we were there we decided to check out some the shelters and while at the Humane Society of Utah we saw this little doll and fell in love with her big brown eyes and sweet personality. So obviously being the dog lover I am we adopted her and it has been the best addition to our little family.
After settling down and lots of talk about our future I made the decision to trade in my Jeep for a safer and more reliable vehicle. Bryan and I had been eyeing this beauty for a while and decided it was the perfect car for us.
The last few months have been even more crazy than we could have thought. We drove 14 hours to Idaho for Thanksgiving where Bryan received the Melchizedek Priesthood from his father. Once we moved back, that next day we moved into our new house! This has definitely been the most exciting process thus far, it's not quite ready to be shown on my blog but I plan to share all of the home decor and home improvement projects with you all.
So that's my amazing year in a nutshell, I can't wait to see what 2017 brings and I can't wait to share it with you all!
