I believe it was in middle school when I first started to dabble into yoga, but it wasn’t until high school that I really fell in love with the practice. When I step onto my mat, I feel an unexplainable sense of peace and calmness that has helped me so much throughout my life.
So if you are wanting to start your yoga journey, want to learn more or are already a practicing yogi this post if for you! Here are 5 reasons to start your yoga practice TODAY!
1. THE PHYSICAL BENEFITS
Let’s talk about the obvious. Yoga has such amazing physical benefits such as helping you build strength, improved circulation, pain relief, increased flexibility and immunity. Whether you are a high intensity athlete or a couch potato, Yoga can benefit anyone.
2. THE MENTAL BENEFITS
Now maybe the not so obvious one, but it surely is one of the best benefits of doing yoga. Every time I step on and off my mat I feel so happy. I feel accomplished, challenged and satisfied, like my soul is full. I suffer from anxiety and often find myself stressed out, but since I came back to my mat, I have felt better than ever before. Yoga is definitely a workout physically but is also incredibly calming and relaxing.
3. THE SPIRITUAL BENEFITS
This is one aspect some people are that into and that is completely okay. Once I opened my mind and heart to new possibilities I began to see them take shape in my own life. I have felt a greater awareness and connection with my intuition as well as those around me. Learning how to channel my energy and learning about chakras, and manifesting has been such a cool and new experience. So if you’re into the more spiritual side of things, yoga is the place to start.
4. NO PRESSURE
Yoga can seem very intimidating from afar, especially from what is portrayed on social media. We see tons of beautiful and experienced yogi’s doing these crazy inversions and handstands, it can seem like if you are not capable of doing that, you wont succeed. But the reality is, that isn’t true. I have never felt pressure to do or try anything I knew my body wasn’t ready for or capable of. Everyone is at their own stage in their practice from beginner to advanced and I feel my fellow yogi’s can feel comfortable in their own unique practice without judgement.
I love the yoga community. Anywhere I go or travel to I can find a nearby studio, take a class and get the opportunity to make new friends. I have felt nothing but love and acceptance from the people I meet and I know that we always have something to talk about. It’s so amazing to have a supportive community of like-minded people from all walks of life.
