Maybe it is just the point in my life, but it seems as though everyone I know is getting married or engaged, and I absolutely love it. Being married is one of the greatest blessings in life and I am lucky enough to have been married to my hubby for nine-months now. Where has the time gone? It’s seems like it was only yesterday that I was on the beach in Cabo for our honeymoon soaking up the sun. It’s scary knowing time is going by so quickly but it’s also so amazing how much we have accomplished together in this short amount of time.
I decided to share a bit of my experience so far being married for all you newly engaged/ newlyweds out there.
1. Sorry Ladies, now you’re under the microscope.
All of us girls should probably see this coming, but now that you’re locked down every craving you have, every day you feel sick, people will think you’re pregnant. It’s inevitable. My co-workers thought (and probably still do) I was pregnant for the longest time. I naturally just cross my arms and crave pickles.
Just be ready to defend yourself, I have told more people that I just had or am currently on my period more often than I would probably like too.
2. Unsolicited Advice
I’m normally not too receptive of advice given that was not asked for, but I feel like since we’ve gotten married people tend to just give you advice on the most random things. Like what I need to do to be a better wife, how I need to maintain my house, how often I should cook and even what our eating habits should look like. I try to just smile and nod, but after a while.. well you know.
3. Expectations VS. Reality
I always thought when I was married, I would clean every day, cook every night, and wear only my cutest pajamas to bed and everything would be magical. Then reality set in and those things aren’t realistic for our lifestyle, and that’s perfectly okay. I love my life and I wouldn’t have it any other way, even the way I expected it to be. I’d much rather relax in my sweatpants, watching Gossip Girl and cuddling on the couch over trying to be perfect.
4. What Bedtime?
I would hang out at Bryan's apartment until 2 or 3am watching movies and talking, because I wanted to spend every possible second with him. So when we got engaged everyone said that when we got married it wouldn't be that way and we would go to bed so much earlier. Welp, sometimes as much as I wish that was true it's definitely not. We still stay up late talking and binge-ing on Netflix til the wee hours of the night like we did when we were dating.
5. Never Been Happier
Marriage is hard, it takes a lot of work, trust and a lot of compromise but it’s all worth it. I may be the only person in the world who thinks “Adulting” is fun. It can be hard, but I wouldn’t change our situation for anything else.
