Kombucha has been around for thousands of years and is known for its vast amounts of health benefits. It has been getting lots of hype over the past few years in wellness industry, with more and more people becoming curious about this mysterious elixir.
1. What is it?
Kombucha is a fermented probiotic drink made from tea, sugar, and scoby (bacteria + yeast), the sugar and caffeine contents are all used up during the fermentation process so what is leftover in the final product is little to none.
“Kombucha does contain a very small amount of alcohol, which has been a source of much controversy in recent years. Sources estimate that store bought brews contain 0.5% to 1.0% alcohol. To put this in perspective, a person would have to drink a six pack of kombucha to approach the alcohol in a single 12oz beer. In fact, a bottle of kombucha would have a comparable alcohol content to an over-ripe banana.” –The Wellness Mama
