Finding the balance between caring for others and caring for your self can sometimes be a hard thing to juggle. Especially for me, I tend to always put others first and put my own needs on the back burner. I started to feel overwhelmed and the kind of exhausted that no amount of sleep could fix. I was becoming sick and I realized I really needed to take care of myself. I began to incorporate 5 things I knew I was neglecting and began to change my habits for the better.
1. MOVE YOUR BODY
Even if just for 10 minutes a day, find a way to get your body moving in a way that does not make you dread it or hate your life. For me its 10-15 minutes of morning yoga or stretching, it's taking my sweet pup for a walk causing seeing her excitement just warms my heart. Moving your body is such an important way to take care of yourself physically, if you're not a gym person find whatever it is that sets your soul on fire. Any activity is better than none at all.
2. FUEL YOUR BODY
This one really changed the game for me. Fueling your body with the right foods really helps you feel better throughout the day. Feeding your body crap really does make you feel like crap. So fill your body with healthy whole foods, and limit the taco bell to when you really want to treat yourself.
3. HYDRATE HYDRATE HYDRATE
OMG I was terrible at this! I would only drink water at work and even then I wasn’t getting enough. So make sure to drink enough water throughout the day to keep your body hydrated. I have noticed a huge difference in my skin and also in my energy levels since I started getting my daily amount of water.
4. SKINCARE ROUTINE
My skin is so important to me, I try to take care of it as best as I can. I have problem skin so it takes a lot of work to keep it looking nice. So I have a very relaxing and calming skin care routine that helps me unwind and also makes my skin look its best. I make sure I do this everyday so i am not tempted to sleep with my makeup on, which is so terrible for your skin.
Take a few minutes a day to just be grateful for what you have and for what you have accomplished. We spend most of our time stressing about the things we cannot change or our to-do lists but we need to be more intentional about appreciating the things we already do have. Changing your mindset can change your life.
I encourage everyone to incorporate things that are the most important to you into your routine. Don't let them get pushed aside, and give yourself the time and love you deserve.
