Balance. Something we all strive for, but can be so hard to obtain. What even is balance?
Well balance is really subjective, which is great news. It's not one size fits all, and what balance looks like for someone else might now work for you. So my greatest piece of advice going into this post is figuring out what that means to you and your lifestyle.
Give Up Control
There are things in this life that we just can't control. Unfortunate circumstances, work, the weather etc. We can't let these things put a damper (no pun intended ;)) on our plans and happiness. We need to learn to appreciate the bad and unfortunate and also learn to work with and around them. Once we are able to be okay with everything not going as planned we are less like to stress over them.
Determine what the essentials are. What responsibilities absolutely have to get done each day, week, month, etc. Which ones can you go without doing? Sometimes we add unnecessary tasks to our lists for the sake of having something to do or to help someone out, when in reality we are taking on way more than we should be. It's okay to help others who need it, but make sure you have the time and capacity to add on more. It is okay to say no sometimes.
Now that you know what you need to do and what you can eliminate it's time to start planning. Being balanced is all about being organized. People have their own preferred ways of planning things out so stick with what works best for you. For me, I put everything in my Google Cal. It syncs up with my iPhone and it helps me stay on track throughout the day. I also like using a physical calendar, its nice to see everything laid out for the month so I know exactly when I am unavailable and also my free time.
*Bonus Tip - Make sure to schedule one day a week or even an hour a day to rest and have a break. It's important when your life is so go-go-go that you have time to recharge.
Mind Body Soul
Balancing your schedule is the easy part, now the connection your mind has with your body and soul is a whole other monster to tackle. Spend some time calming your mind and just focusing on your breath. Pay attention to what your body is telling you, don't ignore what your bodies natural signals. Feeling Tired? Rest! Feeling Hungry? EAT! Dehydrated? Drink Water!
These are all so so simple, yet we ignore these on a daily basis because we have other priorities. When really your overall well being and body should be at the top of that list.
Balancing work, eating healthy, family and friends, etc seems like a lot of work, and dont get me wrong it can be hard at times. A little planning and a simple mindset shift can really transform your life and also the way you feel about certain things.
